Novelist, Erich Segal dies at 72
The famous American author, Erich Segal, has died in London, a family friend told Reuters. The author of the top-selling romance novel, Love Story, died at an age of 72.
As per the reports by some close sources, the writer, born in New York, was buried at a Jewish cemetery in North London on Tuesday.
A local media reported that he died of a heart attack last Sunday. Erich had suffered from Parkinson's disease for many years.
Love Story, which was primitively written as a screenplay when Segal was a classics professor at Yale University, became a best-seller book around the world after its publication as a novel early in 1970.
Later it turned into an Oscar-winning film, starring Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal under the direction of Arther Hiller.
Erich Segal, who has also taught at Harvard and Princeton, was a screen writer on the Beatles' 1968 film, Yellow Submarine.
He has also written books about ancient Greek and Latin literature.
He has left behind his wife, Karen and two daughters ,namely, Francesca and Miranda.
